REVETMENT & SHORELINE PROTECTION

After severe conditions eroded a 1.5 mile stretch of the Lake Erie shoreline along ST RT 531 in Ashtabula, we got to work placing 50,000 tons of revetment stone, widening the roadway, and installing 5000′ of storm sewer.

Lake Erie had eroded this 1.5 mile stretch of the shoreline against ST RT 531 in Saybrook Township for many years. ODOT let the project in the fall of 2013 with an October 2014 completion.

Over 50,000 tons of revetment stone had to be placed on the shoreline along with roadway widening, and 5000′ of new storm sewer installation. The revetment stone was placed in production in January of 2014 after geological studies were performed and accepted.

The site clearing began in March and the first load of revetment stone was delivered to the site in May. Final stone placement was completed in August. The roadway was reconstructed and open to the public in the middle of September.

Our work on State Route 531 in Ashtabula received the Outstanding Highway Project award from ODOT.
