CONSTRUCTION LABORER

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary

Laborer will have the general responsibility to provide support and assistance to the other skilled crafts working on the project. Laborers will be involved in the general installation of pipe, concrete, etc.

CONSTRUCTION LABORER WHAT TO EXPECT

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lay pipe and culvert and/or place pipe culvert foundation.
  • Position, join, align and assure proper seals in culvert sections. Apply tar coatings.
  • Install/seal culverts-erect braces to support trenches
  • Build, locate and install all types of pre-cast catch basins and manholes, depending on type of job.
  • Perform backfill and compaction operations using manual or power-tool methods.
  • Erect a variety of temporary protective fencing,
  • Dig dirt using shovels and machinery
  • Set Forms
  • Lift & carry objects & materials of various weights
  • Push & pull objects
  • General clean up and supply duties on the job site
  • Help maintain equipment by keeping it clean and in proper working order.
  • Report any damaged or unsafe equipment to foreman immediately, never assume he or she already knows, and do not use until repaired or replaced.
  • Practice safety at all times including driving of company vehicles or use of equipment.
  • Use PPE while on jobsite e.g. hard hat safety glasses, ear protection, high visibility vest, steel toe boots, pants, and gloves.
  • Take initiative and anticipate what needs to be done. Shown abilities and willingness to learn and understand your role on the team.
  • Help keep trucks clean inside and out.
  • Turn in any receipts to foreman immediately after purchasing parts, materials, and fuel
  • Report injury or accident to foreman immediately.
  • Stay busy when on job site or company time.
  • Aware of safety issues
  • Maintain a safe dig site

Qualifications

Valid driver’s license. Must be able to pass pre-employment Drug Screening and have acceptable driving record.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

  • Must be able to manipulate shovel and other construction equipment. 
  • Must have command of all five senses sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus. 
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

 

Work Environment

This position will require working outdoors in various climate conditions ranging from very cold with rain to very hot and humid. This includes ditches, excavation sites, and confined locations.

This includes ditches, excavation sites, and confined locations.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high, with occasional periods of time exposed to machine noise. 

Work Week

During peak times and seasonal extreme weather related events, position may require long hours and weekend work.
